2008 Nominating Committee Slate

The 2008 JWHA Nominating Committee consisted of Newell G. Bringhurst (chair), R. Jean Addams, David August, Eric Paul Rogers, and Jason R. Smith. After extensive deliberations, the committee has proposed the following election slate:

For President-Elect: Jeanne Murphey

To fill the seats of outgoing Board members Mike Marquardt and Greg Kofford: Vickie Speek and Craig Foster. And, should the JWHA membership elect Jeanne Murphey as President-Elect, the committee further proposes that Steve Shields be elected to fill out the duration of her term on the Board (2008-2010).

Jeanne Murphey has long been a stalwart member of JWHA. She has sat on the Board since 2002 and has chaired the Bylaws Committee and the Naming Committee. Most recently she served as JWHA’s program chair for the successful Restoration Studies Symposium last April. In last year’s JWHA Journal (vol. 27), Jeanne published "Violence and Tragedy: Jeffrey Lundgren’s Legacy," the result of many years of careful study.

Vickie Speek is an active member of JWHA who currently serves on the 2008 Program Committee. Vickie is an expert on Strangite Mormon history. Her recent book, God Has Made Us a Kingdom: James Strang and the Great Lakes Mormons, won MHA’s Best First Book Award.

Craig Foster is a past Executive Secretary of MHA and has long been an active member of JWHA. He recently co-authored The Mormon Quest for the Presidency, published by John Whitmer Books, and A Different God?: Mitt Romney, the Religious Right, and the Mormon Question, published by Greg Kofford Books.

Steve Shields has been a member of JWHA for decades and was last a member of JWHA’s Board in 1989-90. He served as co-chair of the 2006 Program Committee. He is the author of numerous books, including the seminal Divergent Paths of the Restoration.
