2003 TOUR

    Visit to Caldwell County, Missouri

Two tour buses transported JWHA participants to Caldwell County. En route we drove by the Hiram page grave, near Excelsior Springs, Missouri. The second stop was a view out the window of Crooked River valley, and the location of the Battle of Crooked River. During an extended stop at the Rich Log House, near Mirabile, Bob Hawley presented his research about the life of his ancestor, Pierce Hawley, who owned land just south of the Rich farm. Then Mike Riggs shared the results of an archaeological study that helps authenticate the log house as a Mormon Period home. After another ride, we disembarked at Haun's Mill. Archaeologist Paul Debarthe was there to explain recent archaeological explorations. Also, David Hawley shared information about his recent magnetometer survey of the site.
