JWHA Board Approves New Best Book Award The John Whitmer Historical Association is proud to announce that a new cooperative effort has been reached that will enhance and enrich the Best Book Award that the association has given each year. Through the generosity of the Smith-Pettit Foundation of Salt Lake City, a grant of $1,000 will be given to the author of the book that is seemed the best book written and published during the current year. This will begin with the 2001 award.
The Smith-Pettit Foundation is a private foundation dedicated, through its activities, to supporting scholarly Mormon studies. Gary Bergera, a member of JWHA since 1987 is the new managing director of the foundation. JWHA is grateful for the kind and generous offer that is making this award possible.
The 2001 WHA Best Book Award was given to Lavina Fielding Anderson for her book: Lucy's Book. 2001 Best Article Award: Jan Shipps

The John Whitmer Historical Association is now accepting applications for a promising scholarship/grant awards program for the 2002 annual meeting. The purpose of this scholarship/grant program is to encourage and support scholarly involvement and participation in the JWHA's central mission -- studies of Latter Day Saint religion pertinent particularly to the Community of Christ -- by promising scholars (especially students).
